Help Sonya Kick Cancers A$$!!!

Donation protected
In December of 2016, Sonya was diagnosed with Stage 3 Colorectal Cancer. The news sent a shockwave through her and our whole family. She was hospitalized immediately for tests and evaluation, which resulted in an emergency surgery to remove the tumor from her body. Christmas is Sonya's favorite time of year. The last place she wanted to spend it was in a hospital room, but she did what had to be done. In an attempt to bring normalcy to a devastating situation, her family brought Christmas to her hospital room - something I prayed this family or any other would never have to face.

In January, Sonya started her first round of Chemotherapy. The first few months were not easy. The chemotherapy made her very sick, which made her unable to keep any food in her system. From this, she lost a lot of weight, making her body even weaker. The Chemo also gave her migraines that would hurt so bad she would end up in the ER to receive medication to help ease the pain. She had a round of chemotherapy and they finally found some medication that helped with her nausea. After a while, we began to think things were looking up. Things weren’t great but they were looking better. Then, a new wave began in her journey. She caught a winter cold that keep her down for weeks. The doctors were unable to perform any more chemotherapy due to her immune system fighting this new setback. Once she finally got the okay to receive chemotherapy again, she was only able to receive a few treatments before they were stopped again. Her white blood cell count became too low. She could resume treatment when her white blood cell count was higher. After an uncountable number of blood tests and multiple trips to the ER, her first round of Chemotherapy was finally complete.

When Sonya was first diagnosed with Cancer in December of 2016 she was working as an ER Nurse at, KDH, our local hospital. She loved her job and could not wait to get her next round of treatment completed so she could return to work ASAP. Sonya’s boss was holding a position for her and the ER Doctors and Nurses were a great support system for Sonya through her treatment process as well. However, Human Recourses terminated her from her position as an ER nurse in May of 2017, due to her being off too long for cancer treatment.

When Sonya was terminated from her job in May, she also lost all health insurance coverage effective the day of the termination.

She has been accepted to receive Cobra insurance but it is very expensive, especially for someone with so little income. Her insurance will now cost her roughly $600 dollars a month. Three weeks from now, Sonya will owe Cobra approximately $1,300.00. If we are unable to raise the $1,300.00 dollars to cover her insurance costs, then all treatment will stop. This payment will not cover all of her insurance costs, just the couple of months that she has already been in treatment.

Sonya recently started her first round of Radiation and second round of Chemotherapy. She still has a very long road ahead of her and we as a family have tried to help in every way possible but we are now asking for your help.  We just want to take this burden off of her shoulders so she doesn’t have to worry about how she is going to receive her next month of treatment. We simply want her to focus on her health, recovery, and spending time with her grandbabies.

If you feel led in your hearts to give, our family would greatly appreciate it. All donations go directly to Sonya to cover her healthcare costs. If you don’t have the funds to donate, please SHARE this.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
