My brother means the world to me.....
Drugs are terrible. I’ve had to watch my brother ride the wave of addiction for too many years. It has been soul crushing. When I adopted him at the early age of 16 I was forced to witness his first withdrawal. Feeling helpless, all I could do was love and support him through his process. After the struggle, he started to blossom into a kind, hard working and young confident man. He grew a strong bond with my husband who was the first real male role model in his life. It was never easy for my brother. He has suffered through a great deal of trauma in his lifetime and he’s only 28.
In 2011 my husband passed suddenly of a heart attack and all of our lives shifted dramatically. My brother and I lost a best friend that day and brought us so much grief. He couldn’t handle the pain and had returned to his old ways of using. Now we are faced with having our brother end up on the streets after hitting rock bottom. No one would ever wish this upon those that they love. Seeing him in his current state is heartbreaking.
The good news? He’s willing to make big changes. Rehab is a huge step in the right direction and I believe he will find the support he needs to move forward and live his life to its fullest potential.
I’m writing this with teary eyes and a heavy heart. Our family doesn’t have enough money to put him through a treatment program and we can’t afford to waste much more time.
He is someone who WANTS to better his life. He just needs the opportunity and this is my cry for help.
