Help Solly Recover and Rebuild

Donation protected
Our funny, immensely talented and lively Solly, was involved in a horrific car crash last Saturday,1st Feb. For two hours we were unsure whether he would even make it. He pulled through….but has sustained injuries that are going to affect him for years, if not the rest of his life.

He has a fractured skull , which has impacted his brain and caused bruising and at present unsure what effect it has had and how long it will take to rehabilitate, though feeling positive his head will make a full recovery just not sure how long it will take.

Multiple breaks and open fractures along his whole left leg which includes a large open fracture to his thigh, fractured shin, ankle and foot .  His ankle has required 8 hours of surgery alone, as muscle needed to be grafted from his thigh onto his ankle to save his lower limb completely.

The breaks to his foot will affect him for life, causing probable early arthritis and stiffness.  Also because of where some of the fractures are on his leg bones, this may affect his growth and require further surgeries over the coming 4 years.

Solly was set on a career as a professional sportsman –what he dreamt of and what he was working hard towards. This accident is not only massively traumatising for Solly both physically and mentally, its going to be a real blow to find out his sports career has been possibly jeopardised at such an early age. He will need the absolute best physio after care to make sure he can stay as active as possible throughout his life. Sport is what Solly is!!!

Solly is making great progress, having come out of intensive care on Wednesday 5th Feb and now in the high dependency ward at BRI.  Solly’s major operation to his ankle went well, and the next few days are crucial to the outcome of the operation ( i.e. keeping his lower limb)

The effects of this on Rose and family are huge. Not just the trauma of Solly being in the accident, but also on their daily lives. Rose hasn’t been home since the accident 10 days ago.

Solly will not be able to attend school for the next few months for sure.  Rose is also unable to work as she will have to care for him 24/7 once home for the next few months and possibly beyond.  We just don’t know what the final outcome is yet.  What we do know though is that having some money to help support them through this difficult time can help relieve some of the stress.

Alternative therapies as well as the treatments done at the hospital will be necessary to get Solly up and happy as he was before the crash. Nutrition, acupuncture, massage, trauma counselling etc. and possibly private neurological rehabilitation to help get Solly’s bright spark of a brain back!

Also stuff to make Solly more comfortable and provide him with things to keep him entertained and stimulated whilst he gets over his complex surgeries and comes to terms with his injuries. Music mixing equipment, iPad, etc.

I know this will be a shock for many, but for all of us that know Solly, we know what an amazing, determined and strong young man he is. He will get through this with the support of Rose and all their family and friends.  We will post updates on his recovery but in the meantime, if anyone is able to donate towards helping his recovery, it would be very much appreciated! Thank you xx
