<div>Sofia’s husband Carlos has been detained by ICE for over two years, leaving Sofia to care for their two young children alone, while grieving their long separation. When Carlos was detained in 2024, Sofia was two-months pregnant with their second child. Now, Sofia works night shifts to provide for their 6-year-old and 1-year-old, relying on the generosity of family to watch the children as she works.

<div>Twice already they've fought for and won Carlos’s case for asylum, even expecting he’d be released in February 2025. However, their hope for reuniting was taken from them when the current administration took office. They still won't release him on bond, so Sofia calls Carlos everyday and tries to take the kids to see their dad as often as they can, driving hours across states each time. In addition to all of this, she brings one of the children to therapy regularly to get services for their autism, which was recently diagnosed.
