Slouch is a tattoo studio and art space in Asheville, NC that was detrimentally affected by Hurricane Helene.
A LITTLE MORE ABOUT US:
We are in our third year of being part of the WNC art community. We are a tattoo shop, but we are also an art space that values giving local artists a platform to show and sell their work. Since we opened in 2021, we have hosted community art exhibitions, local musicians, experimental shows, workshops, bingo nights, and fundraisers. We are artist owned and artist ran, and we first and foremost want to champion and support creativity in our community.
OUR NEEDS:
Our building had too much mold and water damage for us to continue to work out of it safely. With our first GoFundMe, we raised enough money to transition into a new studio space that we are currently in the process of getting ready (THANK YOU)!! This round of GoFundMe is to help with our personal loss of income over the past few months.
Ten artists worked at Slouch when Helene hit. We have all had a total or partial loss of income since that day (September 27th). That's over 10 weeks of suddenly being without employment. Most of us have not qualified for government assistance, and Slouch itself has not qualified for the grants that have come our way because of our unique business structure. Some of us have been up against eviction scares, two of our artists have a baby on the way, three of us have been forced to move (accruing moving expenses on top of not being able to work) and all of us have bills that we have been struggling or unable to keep up with because of Helene. We are asking for support to help with this substantial and, frankly, scary monetary loss on our parts. We will use this money to help pay our personal bills and get back on our feet after over two months of not being able to work.
The number we have set for our goal is the combined amount that all 10 of our artists need in order to recoup after this loss, and get back on our feet. Money raised will be dispersed to directly to our artists.
Anything helps. Please donate what you can, and share widely if you can't contribute monetarily. It means so much to us.
