This is Skip Brooks. Husband, father, brother, friend. He was recently diagnosed with stage 4 Squamous cell carcinoma during a routine dentist visit. The cancer was found to be in his cheek, gums, jawbone and cluster of lymph nodes directly under the left side of his jaw. Since his diagnosis in February he has had many surgeries, including the removal of the left side of his jaw, lymph nodes and cancer tissue. Due to his heart history, the doctors were unsuccessful in completing the other half of the surgery that would have reconstructed his jaw, using a leg bone. He has had many trials and victories over the last few months, including learning how to live with a stomach tube, tracheostomy and dealing with chemo and radiation. However, his prognosis is good! He has less than 10 treatments left of radiation and has recently completed chemo therapy! The doctors will be able to determine the success of his treatment by running follow-up CT and PET scans that will take place in the next 2-3 months. Right now the goal is to get through the last treatments of radiation and begin the healing process. The journey is far from over since he will need to follow up with the cardiologist and reconstructive surgeon towards end of year, but he is looking forward to no longer being in daily treatment. As you can imagine, the toll that this takes on personal finances is quite overwhelming. His wife Jenni had to be out of work to help care for him and their 2 small children and much of that time was unpaid.  Your prayers, love, words of encouragement and contributions have made such a difference in Skip's road to recovery.
