Candace Zukas-Cottrell and Stephani Toms are organizing this fundraiser.
My one and only best friend has had a tough year, just like the majority of Americans in today's pandemic. She's a single mother, has 3 kids under 14, two of them with special needs.. works as many hours as the company she is with is willing to give her. She suffered a devastating loss this past year, lost both of her grandparents who were her support system and I know she worries and feels like she's all alone now that they are gone. Like many, her hours were so drastically cut at her last job, she hustled and found another one, but is having a hard time getting the hours she needs. I've known her 5 years now, and she's the last person to ever ask anyone for help, and the situation had to have been dire indeed for her to allow me to do this. I told her now is the time for survival, pride will not provide for them through the situation they are in. The father of the kids might as well be nonexistent, and she receives no support from him. Yet, she was so frugal, she always made things work, kids were fed, bills paid, and roof over their heads...and a minivan to boot. 2 weeks ago, the kids called her at work and said some men just came inside looking around the house. Ofcourse, she panicked and rushed home to find the owner of the home she has rented from for 5 years showing another man the house. He proceeds to tell her he has no choice but to sell the house due to the economic situation he was in, and unfortunately the guy with him was only interested in purchasing the home to flip and resell and had no interest in renting. She is in panic mode, I help as much as I can. The new owner said, in his terms, the quicker she could get out the better for "everyone ", that he needs her out asap so he can get the house flipped before weather gets bad. So, here I am on her behalf. The week before she was told this, she had just paid the rent to the previous owner, which would have went a long way in helping her now. This is not something I would do for many, I don't have many friends and keep my circle small, for me and my family Integrity, respect, and Honor are values we hold dear, striving to be the better person in every way. If we want something, we work for it.. Stephanie has always been there for my family and I, I've seen her go out of her way to help others when she wasn't doing so good herself, and more often than not she suffers her stress and worries in silence out of her strong sense of pride that has helped her survive to this very day, where outside of her grandparents, was loathe to ever have to depend on anyone other than herself, and considered herself independent after having done it own her own since she was 17. Any other way of life was seen by her as weakness. Any little bit can help, and any information anyone has on rentals in martinsville area would also be a blessing I've told her she is not alone, and I will do all in my power to help
