<div>My name is Theresa Childs, and I’m reaching out for help for my daughter Sid.  I am not one to ever ask anyone for help, but I am in desperate need to help save my daughter’s life.

<div>Sid suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, Anxiety, extreme severe self-harm, and Bulimia. Her struggles started almost 3 years ago, shortly after dealing with a “friend” who was a narcissistic gaslighter.  Sid started to self harm - cutting her legs, burning her legs with lighters, slashing her arms with razor blades and scissors etc…..  In Nov 2022 she took her bottle of antidepressants in hopes of ending her life.   Luckily we were able to get her to the hospital and save her life. She was then admitted to the child psych ward on and off for approx 7 weeks.  Bluewater Hospital couldn’t help her and had her transferred to London Hospital where they have a 6 week inpatient treatment program. Sid spent New Year’s Eve and all of Jan in London, but nothing was helping.  They discharged her in February 2023 and “wished us luck”.

<div>We spent the next 2 years in and out of different therapies.  Some were OHIP covered - her psychiatrist who she can only see every 2 months due to shortage of Drs, St Clair Child and Youth who have a limit on how many times they see her (basically immediate crisis only and then off to fend for herself).  We’ve spent $1,000’s on private therapists…. And still she suffers daily.

<div>In Jan 2025 she started slashing her legs again……. And that wasn’t enough for her so in June she wrapped her pinky finger with dental floss, cutting off all circulation to it, for over 30 hours. Unfortunately they had to amputate it.  She also continued cutting and picking open old cuts, to the point where she had to get 38 staples just to close some of them. Bluewater Hospital admitted her again to the psych ward where they held her for 8 days and then sent her home as they couldn't help her.  6 days later she wrapped two of her toes with dental floss trying to kill them, luckily we got her to the hospital before they died.  She was admitted again to the Psych Ward.  They kept her there for 9 days and discharged her on July 18 as they needed her bed for other patients……

<div>Due to her age - she’s 17 and turns 18 in August, no one will help her.  The inpatient programs for children won’t take her because she becomes an adult in 4 weeks, and Adult programs aren’t funded by OHIP and they won’t even talk to her because she is not 18 yet…….. My daughter lies in limbo, wanting to die every day and no one will help her.

<div>Over the last month or so, I have called so many hospitals, from Windsor to Kingston and no one will help as the government funds only cover residents in their district. Sid had an interview with CMHA and was told it would be 6 months before they could help her. I have even reached out to our local MP, Marilyn Gladu, and our local MPP, Bob Bailey, begging for some help.  Bob Bailey’s team is looking into it, but I highly doubt they can change government policy before Sid does something drastic.

<div>We have found a facility in Guelph that will take her when she is 18 years old, but her stay is not covered by OHIP.  Only her treatment is covered, so it will cost us $425/day and her stay will be approximately 77 days.  Her stay alone will cost us $32,725… plus our gas back and forth for visits etc……
