Help show Latrece she's not alone

Like many of you, I peruse through social media daily without giving thought to the numerous posts from distant old friends. Recently, a story caught my eye and brought me to tears. It was that of a high school friend, Latrece Morgan. Overtime, I noticed the funny, sweet, caring girl that I knew had began posting more and more status updates that were melancholy.  Latrece is currently battling gastroparesis and is feeling like she’s in this battle alone. Instead of continuing to offer up prayers to her, I decided to also take action. I reached out to my old high school friend. Her story is heartbreaking.

Latrece, a wife and mother of two, received the diagnosis in 2016 at age 36. At that time, she and her husband took on the fight together. As time has passed, Latrece's husband of 10 years has decided to part ways and relocate to another state. Now, Latrece is left to care for Aiden (3 years old) and Joshua (16 years old) without the support of her spouse. Latrece wants nothing more than to make sure her boys are in good care and have a stable living space. However, because of the medical expenses, cost of rent, and other daily living costs she is not able to provide all that they need. She is most concerned that she will be out of a place to live by the end of September.

Before the diagnosis, Latrece worked in the medical field as a certified medical assistant. She looked forward to helping provide for her family. Unfortunately, the progression of the medical needs and required treatments have made it impossible for her to continue to physically work. Latrece has a pacemaker and feeding tube that limits her mobility. Her ability to care for her own daily personal needs are also limited. She requires the help of a home nurse and aide. As you can guess, this not only takes a toll on Latrece’s emotional, physical, and financial stability but also her boys. If you’re a parent you can imagine how difficult it would be to feel helpless and alone when caring for your children.

Latrece is currently undergoing treatment at the University of Kansas Medical Center and Centerpoint Medical Center. She has state insurance that pays some of her medical costs but not her living expenses or other unexpected expenses. After failed attempts to get her story out and seek help, Latrece asked that I help. I’m setting up this GoFundMe account with hope that we can show Latrece that she and her children are not alone in this battle.

She needs your help. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. Your donation would be used to secure a place for Latrece and her boys to live by the end of September, ease any financial burden that has accrued from the battle, and ensure that the boys are taken care of daily. Latrece wants everyone to know that she appreciates all the prayers and positive thoughts for her family during this journey.

Thank you in advance for your support,
Patricia Smith (on behalf of Latrece Morgan).
