Help Shooting Victim Tim Rohr and Family

On August 12, Tim Rohr had just dropped off an Uber Eats delivery in Chicago.  As he was driving, he passed a cellphone store and noticed broken glass and looters inside the store.  He is unclear of the specifics, but shots were fired from the looters, and from a car of their accomplices.  Thirty shots were fired at Tim.  His car was struck multiple times.  Tim was hit once.  The bullet entered through his back and traveled through his left lung, up through his neck and sinuses and is still lodged in his brain. Tim was rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital, in critical condition, where he was admitted for two weeks. He underwent surgery to release the pressure in his brain. Miraculously, he still maintains all neurological and cognitive function, although he now has permanent complete loss of vision in his right eye. Tim has months of physical therapy ahead of him.  As of this writing, he is re-hospitalized because of a cerebrospinal fluid leak.

Tim worked for many years for companies such as Panasonic Industrial, Dwyer Instruments, Thermtrol and Piab USA, as a sales engineer and industrial sales person.  Through a series of unfortunate career turns, Tim became a full time rideshare driver.  By working smart and putting in a lot of hours (7 days a week often 60+ hours/week), Tim was able replace most of his previous income, but lack of benefits and personal safety were always a concern.

Tim, his wife Lori and their daughter Sophie, have lived in Palatine since April of 2007.  Lori is an actress active in local theater, and she teaches Pilates at Club Pilates.  Sophie started her Junior year at Palatine High School the day after her father was shot.  Sophie is involved with Speech and Theater and dances at Bonnie Lindholm Dance Studio in Palatine.

This all comes at a time when the Rohr family was already dealing with hardships.  As is true for a lot of people, both Lori’s and Tim’s incomes were adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.  In addition, the incident occurred just days after the family returned from the funeral of Lori’s father, who suddenly passed away on 7/29.

It is unclear how long Tim’s recovery will take, or what he will do once he is recovered.  Tim and his family need help with mounting hospital and medical bills incurred through this event, and for lost wages that continue to accrue.

Everyone has witnessed the senseless violence and pain on the news and online every day.  It is easy to forget that there are real people whose lives are dramatically affected by these occurrences.  The Rohr’s join everyone in wishing an end to the violence and suffering in the world.

Tim and his family thank you for your support during this very difficult time.  The family will be forever grateful for your generosity and kindness.
