Help Shawn fight Rectal Cancer

Donation protected
Hi, let me tell you about one of the nicest guys I know.  Shawn Moynihan.  I personally was in shock when he first informed me that he had been diagnosed with Rectal Cancer.    Wait?  How?  Shawn is my age.  He is  physically fit.  He has works hard and he cares.  Shawn help support his wife Tammy of 30 years and their son Nicholas, who has had more than his fair share of medical issues and emergency ICU hospital rooms.

Shawn was born in New York (don't hold that against him!!) and has been a Service Technician in the HVAC  field since 1983.  I think that is when I first meet him.  We worked together at Pardee and he has been at Berkeley Heating and Air for almost the last decade.  Many people , especially all of us animal lovers and Johns Island folk know Tammy Moynihan well.  She owns Bark N Meow, in the Bilo shopping center on on the island where you can pick up all your pet supplies and grooming needs.   Shawn helped Tammy on weekends or if she was out of town for one of her awesome dog shows.  Shawns cancer has hit both of them like a ton of bricks.

It started back in April 2018 when Shawn was diagnosed with Rectal Cancer.  After meeting with numerous Doctors and running many tests, they decided on his treatment.  For almost 2 months Shawn had to drive to downtown Charleston and have daily treatments of both Chemo and Radiation each and every week day morning. This caused their financial struggle to happened almost immediately.   The daily treatment visits caused Shawn to not be able to start work until 11am- noon.  The treatments caused Shawn to lose weight, have constant pain in his hands and  made him tire easily.

Shawn made it through the treatment and got about a month break before his surgery.  The Dr scheduled his surgery for September 11, 2018.  Yep- 9/11.  Huh?  I am not a superstitious woman by nature,  but if Shawn is going to look Cancer straight in the eye, I want him on an even playing field!  Then Hurricane Florence decided to shake up North and South Carolina with her appearance.  Shawn's Doctor was able to complete his surgery and remove the tumor the same day our Governor Henry McMaster ordered a mandatory evacuation by the I-26 lane reversal .

Shawn is at currently at home recovering.  This type of cancer surgery is very painful because of where the tumor located.  The Doctor also had to remove more tissue than anticipated which caused Shawn to have a permanent colostomy.  Shawn and Tammy knew this might be a possibility but it is now a reality.  At this point it is too early to tell how it will impact Shawn.  But if or when Shawn will be able to  return back to work is up in the air.

So there you have it!  Shawn and his family need your help!  To me, it is completely unfair for them to have to endure all this time away from work and financial hardships.  Please send Shawn, Tammy and Nicholas not only your thoughts and prayers, but if you are able will you also contribute to the fund set up for them?  It will help them maintain their home, farm and business expenses while Shawn is recuperating.
