Help Sharon's Teen Live

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Sharon Klym (name changed to protect the identity of my teenage daughter) and I am the proud mother and step mother of 5 amazing kids.  I am asking for help to save my daughter's life, help that required my picking up and moving across Canada immediately.

After being bullied and struggling with an undiagnosed and untreated learning disability for her whole school experience my now 16 year old daughter ended up with severe anxiety, depression and PTSD. At the age of 14 my precious girl used marijuana one night to deal with the pain after receiving a video from a school mate telling her to go drink bleach and kill herself because no one liked her anyways.  This started a downward spiral where she sought escape in drugs and alcohol.

For the last two years, we tried every resource in Manitoba, multiple times with no success, as they all require the kids to attend willingly and to want help. The experts (police, doctors, social workers, addictions specialists, psychiatrists) told us that she would ask for help when she reached rock bottom. We were helpless as there was no one who would help her unless she asked for it and so we had no choice but to wait not knowing how "rock bottom" her rock bottom would need to be for her to ask for help.  I can't tell you how hard it is to watch and wait helplessly as your baby spirals out of control.  Never knowing if today will be the day they hit rock bottom and ask for help or will they die first.  Each moment was agonizing and took it's tole on the family mentally, physically, emotionally and financially as we "lived" with dread every moment of every day fearing the worst, trying anything and everything to convince my daughter that life was worth living - that SHE was worth the fight.

What the experts in Manitoba don't recognize or address are the kids who are so sick that they would rather die than get help as they see no way out.  In August, my once beautiful, funny, passionate for God and people daughter hit rock bottom in the worst possible way but her answer was NOT to ask for help, but rather to attempt suicide and when she failed, to tell us that she would attempt suicide again, and this time would not fail. Thankfully, that day we found a facility who could help her and so without knowing how we would do it, while knowing we had no choice, we moved to Calgary.

If you can, please donate to our covering the cost of moving to Calgary to a facility that helps our family but costs nearly $4400 a month with all councillors and safe housing. This does not include our food or shelter. We are not a wealthy family in spite of our both working; one with another major disability.

We are very hopeful with the facility as young people have graduated since our being here; we as a family are present. You see, the facility works with the whole family separately as addiction and mental health affect the WHOLE family and so we ALL need healing in order to best be able to support our daughter through her recovery. It's hard work yet there is nothing I will not do for the sake of my child.

We are asking for another miracle as finding this facility is the first; now the money to be able to stay in spite of our double living expenses which is causing the money to run out soon. THANK You in advance Spread the word addiction is a disease; Pray for us to have the strength to get through this and that the facility continues its works for people like us with open hearts of people like you! Know that we return the gift humbly praying for you.
