Help Sharon keep SanJuanIslander going

Donation protected
SanJuanIslander.com has provided daily news coverage of the San Juan Islands since December 1999. Funding has increasingly become an issue for media, especially small, local sites. SanJuanIslander is no exception. I know it's a terrible time to ask for financial help, many businesses and individuals are hurting.

This year, the advertising revenue has been reduced even more due to competition from Instagram and Facebook.

In the long term, a viable future for SanJuanIslander most likely means becoming a non-profit. In the best case scenario, grants could be found that would provide stability and enable expansion beyond a single-person operation. According to some media experts, non-profit status is the future for media especially local news. IRS regulations do allow for it.

That's most likely the long term solution. In the short term, donations will help keep San Juan Islander afloat.

In addition to running San Juan Islander, I work a part-time job to underwrite SanJuanIslander. Beginning in January, I'll be offering a $ 7-a-month, Substack subscription for a weekly TL:DR (Too Long; Didn't Read) newsletter. It will summarize the week's news - including links to the full stories.

I have appreciated support received in the past and will be very grateful for any amount this fundraiser provides.

Thanks in advance for your consideration. - Sharon
