Help share love & support for Mrs. Sciarra

A brief story, and a request: She is, to so many people, simply the best teacher they have ever known. Mary Sciarra retired from St. Teresa's Catholic School in Belleville last May after a wonderful 28 year career in which she has influenced many hundreds of children... and even generations from the same family. Mary is also a loving wife and mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, as well as a friend to so many.
However, today Mary is beginning to travel through some of the dark days that eventually await us. It strikes me: Wouldn't it be great if we came together to help her with a dose of the same light, warmth and love that she shows so many of us?
Mary was diagnosed with melanoma about 10 years ago. She's been through multiple surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation. While it hasn't taken her spirit, the cancer has now spread in a way that is likely to limit the days she has remaining to share with us.
Her response to this? "Our lives are full of ups and downs. If it weren't for the downs, we wouldn't truly appreciate the ups." She then went on to describe what a fantastic life she has had with wonderful family and friends.
On January 11, she and her family made the difficult decision to transfer her care to Evelyn's House, a hospice facility that offers warm, comfortable surroundings.
So I'm thinking that this is our opportunity to show Mrs. Sciarra the love that she has shown us for SO many years! Please keep both Mrs. Sciarra and her family in your thoughts and prayers, which are so important to her.
To help make her last days as comfortable and worry-free as they can be, please consider a monetary donation to help defray medical and hospice costs. Whether big or small, any little bit helps.
I will also update when I find out if it is possible to mail cards, letters, photos, etc.
For those who do not know me, I am Stephanie (Svec) Mueller. Mrs. Sciarra was my second grade teacher in the 1992-1993 school year at St. Teresa's. I loved her so much, I asked her to be my confirmation sponsor. There are no words to adequately describe her other than I truly believe she has been an angel amongst us on earth over her past 70 years.
