<div>My name is Shannon, and I am Shane’s aunt. I’m starting this GoFundMe because my nephew’s life changed overnight, and he now faces a long, painful road to recovery with overwhelming medical and living expenses.

<div>While working out of Wichita, Kansas, Shane was struck by a fallen driving reamer, which crushed and broke two of his toes. His employer did send him to a doctor and paid for treatment of his foot.

<div>For almost a month, Shane was on minimal or light duty before being required to drive a semi-truck from Kansas to New York.

<div>During that trip, Shane began experiencing severe and worsening back pain. He reported it and was repeatedly told to continue working and take ibuprofen. The pain continued to intensify over the next three days. 
</div>

<div>Medical Emergency

<div>Shane’s condition worsened to the point that he was taken to the emergency room and flown back to Dallas. At first, doctors believed it was a pinched nerve. When chiropractic care and minimal pain medication did not help, further testing was ordered. 
</div>

<div>An MRI revealed a mass on his spine.
</div>

</div>
<div>Shane was admitted to the ICU and underwent emergency spinal surgery, followed by rehabilitation. Shortly after, the same severe pain returned. Another MRI revealed:

</div>
<div>	•	A fractured vertebra
</div>
<div>	•	Pressure on his spinal cord

<div>Surgeons had to:

<div>	•	Place rods in his spine
</div>
<div>	•	Grind down bone pressing on his spinal cord
</div>

<div>Current Condition
</div>

<div>Today, Shane:
</div>
<div>	•	Cannot walk without a walker
</div>
<div>	•	Cannot stand or walk without physical therapy
</div>
<div>	•	Has right-leg weakness
</div>
<div>	•	Has numbness in his toes
</div>
<div>	•	Is recovering from major spinal surgery
</div>
<div>Doctors have told us his recovery could take 6 months to a year, possibly longer.

<div>While Shane’s employer covered treatment for his broken toes, workers’ compensation later denied coverage for his spinal injury, stating there was “no proof” it was work-related.
