Help Shae and Kids Start a Safe Life

My name is Shae, I’m a mother of two, and I need help escaping an abusive marriage.

Throughout my marriage, my husband drank to excess, despite my repeated pleas begging him to stop, and eventual ultimatums. When he drank-which was an all day, every day occurrence-he would fly into rages, destroy my possessions, call me every horrible name in the book, threaten me, and terrify my children. Two weeks ago was the final straw. My husband, who is an ex felon with three DUIs under his belt, who is without a drivers license, took my dog, stole my car, and proceeded to drive recklessly while drunk. He crashed into a lamppost, and in a desperate attempt to flee the scene, crashed into another car as well.

My mother picked me up from work and drove me back to my apartment, at which time I discovered my new car, completely smashed up. Thankfully, my dog was okay. Upon returning to my apartment, I discovered my husband had kicked the door in and destroyed the lock, and he was so inebriated he could barely string a sentence together. He began acting out violently and continuing to threaten me, at which point I called the police.

He was eventually arrested (he had been violating the terms of his parole as well), but yesterday he was released from jail and is awaiting a trial date. I have filed for divorce and filed an order of protection against my soon to be ex husband, but my children and I are terrified he will attempt to get in contact with us.

I am humbly asking for financial help so I can move my children and I out of the apartment we were sharing with my husband. Insurance will cover the repairs on my car, but my rates will go up, and I am facing life as a single mother with two children.
