Help Send Sarah to Grad School

Donation protected
I grappled with whether or not to launch this campaign at all.  At times it felt greedy to ask for money, selfish to ask you to help fund my education – qualities that are the exact antithesis of what I’m striving to do with this degree.  Yet no matter how noble or humanitarian the work and resulting careers, higher education costs money – a lot of money.  So here I am.

I have been saving for graduate school since I was a pre-teen and managed to set aside $17,000, a beginning I am so grateful to have as the school year nears.  But when the numbers are crunched, it’s only about 15% of the total cost.

I’m not unique in going to for my Master’s and neither are my expenses.  Like the thousands of students who obtain Master’s degrees every year, I will take out as much in loans as I need to and pay them off for as long as is necessary; this work is too important to me to let fear of debt stand in the way.  But that doesn’t stop it from being a terrifying and potentially debilitating move to make on my own.  So I am going out on a limb, setting my fear and pride aside, and asking for help.

As you will see in the subsequent video, the degree I am pursuing is a Master’s in Global Policy, with an emphasis in Developmental Policy from Boston University.  The vision this program has for “intellectually excelling in peace, prosperity, policy and place” is not only one that I believe in, but also one that I know I share with so many of you.  The financial support from your contributions is certainly endorsing, but perhaps even more so is the personal accountability I will receive from this endeavor.  Knowing that you are behind me will further propel me to give this program all that I have, to dedicate my whole self to the vision I have for social justice.  My promise to you is a lifetime of service in advancing the common good, promoting human rights, and living as a global citizen alongside my fellow man, however that may manifest itself in the coming years.

I am beyond grateful for any and all support.  Believing in me and simply having taken the time to read this is a gift!  If you are comfortable sharing this page with friends and loved ones on social media or elsewhere, please do.  As the old adage goes, every little bit helps.  From the bottom of my heart: Thank you.
