Help Send Najee to AfroTech

Friends & Family, I’m calling on your support!

Every October my birthday comes around and I make a point to ask for nothing. One year I even threw a party just to celebrate everyone else around me. With community at the core of everything I do--my art-making, my facilitation, my organizing--I’m so used to pouring into everyone and everything else, that sometimes I forget about myself.

This year I’ve decided to do something different.

Last year, I challenged myself to find the many ways that I would continue to pour into myself: re-enrolling in health care, signing up for therapy, getting a personal trainer, etc.  And this year, I’m invested in building my vision.

At the top of 2017, myself and two business partners began developing a community-building app that would revolutionize a market exchange of goods and services. So far, we’ve held a series of focus groups, began talking with investors, and have designed alpha and beta modules to test functionality. Through trial and error, and tons of information gained, we decided it’s time to take this app to the next level.

My team and I are planning to attend AfroTech in San Francisco, CA to engage with some of the fastest-growing tech startups and learn the tactics and strategies they use in efforts to grow our product and business. But we need your support!

For my birthday this year, I’m calling on 50 people to contribute $20 in 20 days to send me and one (1) business partner to the conference!

Please consider contributing to my conference fund to help make my vision a reality.

With gratitude,
Najee

WHAT IS AFROTECH

AfroTech is the groundbreaking, revolutionary experience for Black techies, startups and entrepreneurs, returning to The Bay Area November 8 - 11, 2018.

3000+ founders, entrepreneurs, engineers gather for a 360-degree look at how culture and tech runs the world. This level up continues with an expanded program at various venues in the city by the Bay. Making room for more tech, more talks, more teaching, more learning, more pitching and more glow ups! Learn more at afrotech.com .

HOW YOUR FUNDS WILL BE USED

Between travel, accommodations, and transportation fees, conference attendance is a significant investment totaling around $3500. I’m asking you to support my vision by helping me raise $1000 (only 30% of total attendance).

Each dollar is put directly toward funding two (2) General Admission  tickets. Ticket prices include: 2-day Conference entry; meal tickets; swag bags; access to the attendance only communication and tools; and more!

ABOUT ME

Hey! I’m a Brooklyn-based poet, performer, and educator, using the arts to engage and cultivate community. I’m a recipient of fellowships from The Callaloo Creative Writing Workshop and Poetry Incubator for Emerging Poets. My selected features include Russell Simmons’ All Def Poetry, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and colleges and universities across the United States. I’m the Founder, Executive Director of Spark House : an arts education organization dedicated to developing youth voice and promoting social/emotional well-being. As a teaching artist, I turn classrooms into stages by conducting poetry and performance workshops for inner city and high need youth in schools and juvenile justice facilities across the country. In 2017, I leapt into the field of tech to revolutionize community building practices through a market exchange of goods and services. I’m a 2018 Artist-in-Residence with the Intergenerational Community Arts Council, a New York Times Visionary, and my mission is to activate the next generation of change agents, one word at a time.
