Hi everyone,

I wanted to provide an update on my car repair journey. Initially, I was told by a trusted mechanic that my transmission needed to be replaced, but after seeking a second opinion, I found out that wasn’t the case. I am deeply disappointed in his misguidance but super grateful that I have found truthful mechanics. The new mechanic fixed the most urgent issue, the air intake hose (which apparently was completely severed and yet was still misdiagnosed by the first mechanic), and provided a detailed list of additional repairs that my car desperately needs in order to stay running for a while.

The repairs include:

Engine mounts

Brakes

Electrical system (catalytic converter/figuring out why the computer is not communicating with the car correctly)

Leaks (engine and exhaust)

In addition to these, I’ve also noticed other issues that will need attention eventually:

Shocks (low priority but need to be done eventually)

Windshield (cracked by a pebble kicked up on the highway by a truck)

Sunroof (stuck open for years, at least needs to be closed)

Thanks to the incredible support from donations and the money I’ve earned, I’ve already fixed the air intake hose and will be replacing the tires tomorrow, along with addressing the brake issues soon. However, I’ve had to increase the fundraising goal to cover the more costly repairs, especially the engine leaks and catalytic converters, which are critical to keeping the car running safely.

As much as I’d love to replace this car, I’m unable to purchase a newer one right now. Every used car dealer I’ve spoken to requires that I make at least $3,000+ monthly to qualify for financing. While I did consider and try to get a newer car, I was refused, which means repairing my 2005 Toyota Camry is my only option at this time. On top of that, I’m currently looking for positions that will allow me to afford an apartment, townhouse, or room for rent so I can have some stability before going through with purchasing a newer car.

This car is vital for getting to work, school, and traveling between my college in Ohio and home in Maryland. Ensuring it’s reliable is essential for my day-to-day life and future goals.
