Help Sem fight ALS

Thank you for visiting our page! We are posting this in an effort to help our dear friends Lusya, Sem, Anna and Ilya in Sem's fight with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), better known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Lusya and Sem have opened up their home and hospitality to so many of us for as long as we can remember! We have shared countless dinners, parties, and events either at their home, or organized by them. When we were teenagers their doors were always open for ALL of us to have a space to feel safe and hang out together. Even though Sem often had to get up at 5am for work the following morning, they would invite all of Anna’s and Ilya’s friends to hangout, listen to music, talk late into the night, sleepover, and stay for breakfast! Now it’s time for us to help them!
Sem began his struggle with ALS 4 years ago. He has been courageously facing this terrible disease with confidence and without fear. His unconditional love for his family and resolve not to complain of his situation is an inspiration to anyone who knows him! However, the family has struggled for several years to keep up with medical expenses and mortgage payments while Lusya has had to limit her working hours to help care for Sem at home. With a disease like ALS, motor function decline leads to the need for assistive and adaptive devices. With each passing week, Sem’s health is rapidly declining and he is now in need of a wheelchair. Unfortunately the house where the Sem and Lusya live has a very large staircase and without a wheelchair lift there is no way to get Sem up and down the stairs. The cost of the lift and building of ramps for the wheelchair is not covered by insurance. The Lederman family has reached out to several organizations to assist with the costs of Sem’s medical care, and although insurance will cover some of the care and medical supplies he will require we know there will be many, many expenses in the days to come. Contributions to this fund will be put toward these eventual necessities, as well as the wheelchair lift that will allow Sem to get in and out of the house.
We are asking that we, as friends and family, gather together and consider helping to share the financial burden that has been presented for the Ledermans - both now and over the past several years. Our hope is to clear away the financial burden, allowing Lusya, Sem, Anna and Ilya to enjoy time together as a family with one less worry.
