<div>Fourteen months ago, I began having health symptoms that I should have taken more seriously. I kept pushing them aside because my focus was on caring for my family. I look after my 91-year-old mother, who is 90% blind and 90% deaf, as well as my disabled brother. My older brother has shared in this responsibility, but he, too, faces financial struggles and has little to fall back on.

<div>Recently, I was diagnosed with colon cancer. The treatment will be costly, and my health insurance offers limited support. At the same time, my brother will now have to carry the full weight of caring for both our mother and me. That means missed work, lost income, and no safety net. If I do not survive this fight, any support raised will go directly to him so he can continue caring for our mom and our disabled brother.

<div>This experience has taught me a painful but powerful life lesson: be your own advocate in healthcare. Your health is more valuable than money. If all you can manage is telemedicine, start there. Do something. Get checked. Take your health seriously, and encourage your loved ones to do the same.

<div>My mom is almost 91 and is 90% blind and 90% deaf so she needs a little help.  My disabled brother is diminished and a big challenge to my brother and I.  We are the type who take in rescue dogs, and I always try to pay it forward.   My brother and I are both workaholics but this will hurt our incomes.  We had a septic flood that drained his savings, and he tried to help me disabled brother taking most of his retirement ( I know that wasn't the best move but it's done).  These factors are causing hardship that is just beginning.
