RIP Scooby - Help with vet costs

Donation protected

Update: Scooby went in for surgery today to have a feeding tube put in so we could feed him more easily and with less trauma to his system. The procedure went well, but, unfortunately, Scooby went into cardiac arrest when they extubated him. He was brought back, but only temporarily. We are heartbroken and want to thank all of those who donated. We will use what we got to help defray the costs of his initial treatment and today’s procedure, which total in excess of $1,500. We will leave this page up for a bit with a revised goal for anyone else who would like to contribute. Thank you all so much for your support and caring during this difficult time.

Scooby is an eight-year-old orange tabby that we adopted from a shelter, where he was surrendered after the death of his owners. The people who brought him to the shelter used traps to catch him and his brother, who we were told died from the stress.

When we brought Scooby home, he wouldn’t eat and was hiding a lot. We thought it was all part of his grieving and adjustment process, and let him take his time getting acclimated.

After two weeks, we started to think something more was wrong, and yesterday we took him for an emergency vet appointment.

Unfortunately, it was much worse than we could have imagined. His liver is shutting down and he is in critical condition. We are doing all we can to try and save his life. The vet said this could be reversible, but he needs round the clock care, including tube feedings and fluids. A hospital stay for him is $1,000 a night, plus the surgery to put his feeding tube in. We have spent this weekend force-feeding him and giving him fluids at home, hoping he might start eating on his own. If he doesn’t, he at least needs the feeding tube.

It is difficult to ask for help right now, but we are already maxed out on our Care Credit card and could really use it, especially during these times. We love him and don’t want to have him put down! He is very sweet and has so much more love to give!
