<div><span>I first travelled to Indonesia in 2024 and instantly fell in love — with the warmth and kindness of the people, the joy and openness of the children, the nature, the food, the culture. It felt like I found a little paradise</span><br />

<div>But I quickly realised that beyond the beautiful places shown on social media, there is another side that many never see.

<div>Many Indonesian families live on very little income, often work long hours in difficult conditions, and still remain incredibly generous, welcoming, and caring.

<div>At the same time, parts of the country suffer from deforestation, environmental destruction and the effects of climate change — which threatens the future of the younger generation.

<div>And recently, in North Sumatra, <b>severe floods destroyed homes, schools and entire communities</b>. Many people who already had very little lost everything — their houses, belongings, and in many cases family members. 

</div>

<div>This is where I want to help.

<div><span>I reached out to one school program in particular on the island of <b>Nias </b></span><span><b>in North Sumatra</b> called <b>Ndulu English</b>. There I will be volunteering and teaching English next year. They too were hit by the rain and floods. Right now they need help in fixing their roof. I’m trying to get as many donations as possible for them right now.</span>

<div>Ich bin 2024 zum ersten Mal nach Indonesien gereist und habe mich sofort verliebt – in die Herzlichkeit und Freundlichkeit der Menschen, die Lebensfreude und Offenheit der Kinder, die Natur, das Essen und die Kultur.
Es fühlte sich an, als hätte ich ein kleines Paradies gefunden.

<div>Doch mir wurde schnell bewusst, dass es neben den wunderschönen Orten, die man auf Social Media sieht, auch eine andere Seite gibt, die viele nie kennenlernen.

<div> Viele indonesische Familien leben von sehr wenig Einkommen, arbeiten lange Stunden unter schwierigen Bedingungen und bleiben dabei dennoch unglaublich großzügig, herzlich und fürsorglich.

<div>Gleichzeitig leiden Teile des Landes unter Abholzung, Umweltzerstörung und den Folgen des Klimawandels – Entwicklungen, die die Zukunft der jungen Generation bedrohen.

<div>Vor Kurzem haben zudem schwere Überschwemmungen in Nord-Sumatra Häuser, Schulen und ganze Gemeinschaften zerstört. Viele Menschen, die ohnehin schon kaum etwas hatten, haben alles verloren – ihre Häuser, ihr Hab und Gut und in vielen Fällen sogar Familienmitglieder.

<div> Genau hier möchte ich helfen.

<div>Ich habe Kontakt zu einem <b>Schulprojekt auf der Insel Nias in Nord-Sumatra </b>aufgenommen, das <b>Ndulu English</b> heißt. Dort werde ich im nächsten Jahr ehrenamtlich arbeiten und Englisch unterrichten. Auch diese Schule wurde von den starken Regenfällen und Überschwemmungen getroffen.
Aktuell benötigen sie dringend Hilfe, um das Dach des Schulgebäudes zu reparieren. Dafür versuche ich, so viele Spenden wie möglich zu sammeln.
