My baby Ziggy is currently in a critical condition fighting for his life after suspected poisoning.
Ziggy became lethargic and unable to move during a walk yesterday (Saturday) and was unable to walk home. His body started shutting down and after acute diarhorrea, shaking and vomiting his body went into shock as his body started to shut down.
Since then Zig has been on a drip and subject to continuous testing to try and find the source of the problem. He is in severe abdominal pain and is on regular opiate painrelief to control it.
Today Ziggy's blood platelet count has dipped to critical low levels, meaning his blood is unable to clot and he is at serious risk of an internal Hemorage. Tonight he has been transferred back to the overnight vets where he is waiting on a plasma transfusion. Although risky, it is felt that this is his best change to prevent and internal bleed at this stage which would be fatal.
Zig is an amazing dog. He's been through so much in his life, and overcome so many problems. Many of you have followed his story and battle with his leg, which was scheduled to be amputated this summer. For those of you that know Zig personally you will vouch that his tail never stops wagging, no matter how much discomfort he is in.... yesterday his tail stopped wagging and it broke my heart :( I know he's suffering, he's really fighting but he's struggling. His body is putting up a massive response to whatever hideous toxin he has encountered and his internal organs are under strain. They are just about coping but he needs this blood transfusion and continued supportive care to get him through over the next few days if he has any chance of recovery this can't stop. Every day I run him back and forward between vets and will continue to do whatever it takes, for as long as it takes.
Zigs bill is currently £2300. His overnight care alone is £700 per night. Because of Zigs previous condition and injuries he is virtually impossible to insure. I will never ever give up on my best friend. He has helped me through some difficult times and shown me unconditional love and trust when at his most vulnerable. He trusts me with his life and that's exactly what I need to help him fight for now. Zig is critical, if anyone can help me continue the care he needs, including his plasma blood transfusion we would be beyond grateful.
I feel that many of your have been part of Zigs journey , following us through his supervet journey and have helped me get him to this stage. We are forever grateful to you all.
I hope this isn't the end of my boy's journey, and merely another hurdle that he has to overcome
