Our Mission
The VFW was established to assist veterans. Our mission is to foster camaraderie among United States veterans of overseas conflicts, to serve our veterans, the military and our communities, and advocate on behalf of all veterans. The purpose of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States are fraternal, patriotic, historical, charitable and educational; to preserve and strengthen comradeship among its members, to assist worthy comrades, to perpetuate the memory and history of our dead and to assist their surviving spouse and orphans, to maintain true allegiance to the Government of the United States of America, and fidelity to its Institutions of American Freedom, and to preserve and defend the United States from all her enemies.

The VFW Capital of Texas Post 8787 is in desperate need of funds to help keep its doors open. We are also in need of new members to carry on the traditions of our mission and to pass the legacy onto younger generations returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan.

VFW Post 8787 has been located at 500 VFW Road in Austin, Texas since 1969. Our doors have welcomed home veterans of all the different branches of the military, of every age, sex, color and from different conflicts all over the globe. Post 8787 is a place where brave men and women veterans know they will be welcomed and where they feel at home. Post 8787 is a place where they can talk with other veterans about their journeys and struggles, what they went through in their military careers, about the wars they bravely fought in. The Post is where they can relate to how life is now, how it was in action, what life was like returning home from their own war. The members of the Post help younger veterans with what they are going through now because they have gone through the same things. Returning vets can openly talk about their own struggles and about re-entry back into the civilian world. Post 8787 is where all veterans can go to find someone who understands and can help them.

With thousands of military men and women deployed in hot spots around the globe, the VFW and post 8787 serve as an integral part of their re-entry into civilian life. When they come home they still feel the need to be a part of their military family and the VFW gives them that ability. However, as our members get older, they are saying goodbye to friends they call brothers and sisters and have come to know and love. Fewer and fewer new members are joining the VFW. The new generation of veterans returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan do not know enough about what all the VFW does, what programs we have and the comfort many of the older generations of veterans inside can offer.

The once thriving and full 8787 Post is now in trouble of closing its doors for good and losing our ability to help our members. The Post needs immediate donations and new members. Any help is greatly appreciated!

To help the veterans that have given their bodies and minds, their time, who have left their loves behind to defend our Nation, to keep the Post open for our future veterans please consider donating.
