Meet Tater — a 55 lb bundle of stubby legs, big smiles, and pure joy. This almost 3-year-old American Staff mix was rescued from a kill shelter, finally got a second chance… only to be adopted and heartbreakingly returned.

After being let down again, an amazing couple took him in to give him the love and safety he deserved. But just when we thought things were looking up, we got devastating news — Tater tested positive for heartworm. On top of that, he’s now developing a painful rash.

Heartworm is a serious, life-threatening disease, but it is treatable. The treatment is expensive, slow, and hard on the body — and without it, Tater’s chances aren’t good. We want nothing more than to get him healthy, but the cost is more than I can manage alone.

Tater isn’t just “another dog.”

He’s the kind of dog who makes everyone laugh — galloping around the yard like a cartoon character, then flopping dramatically onto the couch for a nap. He loves every puppy he meets, patient with other dogs, gentle with cats, and always ready for snuggles.

He’s fought his way out of a shelter. He’s survived being returned. He’s still wagging his tail through it all.
