Hello all,
My name is Crystal and I'm creating this campaign on behalf of my cousin, Qhueen Sale Rebulado and the Rebulado family. We are raising funds for a liver transplant for Qhueen's 1-year-old daugther, Princess.
Princess is diagnosed with biliary atresia. Biliary Atresia is a rare disorder of the liver and bile ducts that primarily affects infants. According to the National Insitute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Disease, bilitary atresia is when bile becomes trapped, builds up, and damages the liver. The damage then leads to scarring, loss of liver tissue, and cirrhosis. Cirrhosis is a chronic, or long lasting, liver condition caused by scar tissue and cell damage that makes it hard for the liver to remove toxins from the blood. These toxins build up in the blood and the liver slowly deteriorates and malfunctions. Without treatment, the liver eventually fails and the infant needs a liver transplant to stay alive.
Essentially, Princess' life is in daily danger. She is only 1, but each day, there is a chance her liver will not function and her body can poison itself. Unfortunately, her condition is so severe that her only option is a liver transplant.
The Rebulado family live in the Philippines where payment is needed prior to providing services. My cousin, Qhueen, has led ongoing fundraising efforts in the Philippines (e.g. raffling prizes, selling t-shirts, etc.) to compliment her own family's contribution so that Princess can recieve the liver transplant as soon as possible. However, they need at least $5,000 more to have enough to pay for the surgery. Qhueen will be the live donor for Princess.
Biliary artesia may be rare, but the disease is more common in females, premature babies, and children of Asian or African American heritage. The costs associated with this diesase is astronomical, especially in South East Asia. It's incredibly heartbreaking, but the cost of this surgery is the only barrier to Princess living a long and healthy life.
