Oh friends.

This isn't easy to write. This is scary. But I'm in need of your help. I shut the doors to the beautiful, spacious and light-filled bookstore on March 14th when I realized that something terribly contagious was spreading fast, and I needed to do everything in my power to #stopthespread #flattenthecurve #lovethyneighbor

As of today, things are not looking good. "Grim" is the word I keep hearing. I'm afraid we haven't seen the worst yet. The problems of the world seem so much larger than me and my bookshop, but I believe books are vital for a community and world at large to function; they provide a window directly into the lives of another. I know books bring about empathy and empathy is what we need more than ever in these anxious, lonely times.

It's been just over 5 years since I opened PAPERCUTS. I've been running it on a shoe-string. It's been 2 years since I took a vacation. I don't know what savings are. I didn't start with much.  In fact, I was wildly underfunded, but wildly hopeful and I believed in you. And...guess what? You showed up! I've been able to pay my bills and stay in business. And most recently, we've even grow into our beautiful new location at 60 South Street in Jamaica Plain in January of 2020.

I am so deeply grateful for the life you've allowed me to live these past 5 years. You have kept me alive and afloat. You've made my life fulfilling. Seeing all of you, getting to know you, finding the right books for you and your loved ones, seeing your kids grow up--it's all so rewarding and moving and I can't imagine doing anything else with my life.

Yet...COVID has made my shoe-string of a business all of a sudden at "High Risk" and I'm unsure how I will continue to be able to meet my financial obligations without having my doors open.

So, I'm asking for your help.

This is serious. The future of PAPERCUTS is in jeopardy and I need your help.

I promise I'll continue to work my hardest to provide you the very best books I can find, to bring brilliant authors to the neighborhood, to publish even more books,  and to continue be your local woman-owned independent bookseller in the beautiful Boston neighborhood of Jamaica Plain.

Readers, it's in your hands now.

Thank you, truly, from the bottom of my heart.
