Help save Mugz life!

Meet Mugz. She is a 6 month old blacklab. Many of you know her from the coffee shops on the beach, working at Bayliss, and playing on the beach at Avalon. This past Wednesday morning, Mugz got hit and run over by a truck right as we were going into work. Her pelvis is shattered, her hip is broken in three different spots, and her back legs were torn to the bone in certain areas. I took her to the Manteo Roanoke Animal Clinic immediately where they have been working on her and will keep her there until its time for surgery in Raleigh at the Quartet Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital (Tuesday). The surgery itself isn't the big issue in this case, its the recovery. One of her growth plates for her back leg was smashed when she was run over. The surgeon won't know if he'll have to take the leg until he starts the operation. The surgeon says that the first two months will be brutal, but in that third month, she'll  start running again and be near a FULL RECOVERY!!

The big issue for me personal is the funds. The total bill at the Manteo Roanoke Animal Clinic is $857.86 (They offer a payment plan, so I'm not too worried about that) and that's including keeping her there until we leave for surgery Monday morning. Here's the biggest issue for me. The surgery is anywhere from $4,000-$4,400. Deposit of $2,000 when they start surgery on Tuesday, and the remainder ($2,000-$2,400) when its time to pick up Mugz Wednesday or Thursday. This comes at a very unfortunate time for me. I recently got scammed for $1,350 for a condo that my brother and I were planning on renting. With the daily/month of March expenses I have already covered, the cash flow is pretty slim for right now, which is why I'm swallowing my pride and asking for help. This money raised will go toward Mugz surgery and meds she's going have to take. I am only trying to cover the cost of the surgery itself and deal with the Manteo Roanoke Clinic afterwards.

This reminds me of when my house burnt down and how hard it was to say NO but how much it meant to those who gave when you said YES. If there's one clear message I've learned going through a house fire, its when people want to give and help you, you should let them. It's what they want to do. It's who they are. Do not be prideful and push them away. Instead, allow them to give and help when you need it, even if you don't think you need it or deserve it. If they don't, then they won't.

Back to Mugz... She absolutely means the world to me. She's my first pup and there are so many people she loves and remembers. Not to mention, she has 4 other siblings that still live on this beach! She's had a visitor come by nearly everyday during lunch and or after work and she remembers every person, especially if you have given her a treat before. I am already forever in debt to this community and my friends who helped my brother Jason, our friend Tony and myself when our house burnt down in Jan. 2017. It was so humbling to see and be apart of when this community comes together, even being on the other side (receiving side). Living on this beach and being apart of this community is the best thing that has ever happened to me and I hope it can become the same for Mugz. Thank you for reading our story and thank you for donating! We will forever love the Outer Banks and the community!! Love you all!!
