Moka is our sweet 7-month-old kitten and a beloved member of our little family. I surprised the girls earlier this year with Moka, to help them adjust to some big family changes, including their parents' separation and their dad moving into a new home. From the moment Moka came home, he became so much more than a pet. He has been my daughters' constant companion, cuddle buddy, playmate, and source of comfort (and sometimes kitty scratches).
Early Friday morning, our worst nightmare happened. Moka fell from our third-story balcony onto the concrete below. Thankfully, I found him, but he was really scared, bleeding, and holding up his little leg. After four long hours at the veterinary clinic, we learned that Moka had suffered a broken wrist that requires surgery to repair.
The cost of his surgery and follow-up care is expected to be around $4,000. As a single parent, I am facing these expenses on my own, but giving up on Moka is not an option.
When I was talking with my daughters about the situation, my sweet 8-year-old asked, “Mama, what’s more important: money or family?”
That simple question said everything.
Moka is family. He has helped my girls through uncertainty, and change. He has been there for every cuddle, every tear, and every moment they needed comfort. Now he needs us.
We are asking for help to give Moka the surgery and care he needs to heal. Any donation, no matter the size, will go directly toward his medical expenses. If you are unable to donate, sharing our story would mean so much to us.
With love & gratitude,
Cassaundra, Thea, Juno, Lumi & Moka
Latest update: Moka is at the clinic waiting for his surgery, which is planned for this evening.
