Help Save MAP Cafe

MAP Studio Cafe has served as a cornerstone for the people of Kentish Town for more than 30 years. Over this time we have employed over 500 local people along the way and are always committed to being a community-led business. 


The cafe is a hub for parents and children of neighbouring schools, students, local workers as well as friends made through our events and recording studio. We are key organisers of the yearly Alma Street Fair, and our venue platforms local artists and hosts public and private events for all ages. Our studio has been active since 1990 and has nurtured talent from the community at affordable rates, as well as working with local initiatives to give free workshops to children in the area. 


We have always sought to be a supportive, nurturing space for all, which is why we have intentionally held out on turning to our own community for help. As you are no doubt aware MAP, along with other cafes and venues, faces a serious threat of closure due to its inability to trade and operate in a meaningful way. Our business relies on people dropping in after the school run, coming to gigs, and meeting friends from other households to catch up. Without this, we have found it extremely difficult to stay on top of rent and other bills and overheads as well as support our freelance staff, managers and those not able to be on furlough. 


Throughout 2020 we have done all we can to keep afloat and even managed to open (in a relatively normal way) for a couple of months! However despite all our efforts we now really need the help of our community, friends and family. Your support will  be vital to helping us survive the first few months of 2021- which are going to be the toughest yet. We can’t wait to  open our doors to you all once more but until we are able to do so we will continue to need your support.
