Help Save Lex from FIP

Hi everyone, my name is Uros, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart but hopeful spirit.

Just yesterday, my daughter’s sweet cat, Lex, was diagnosed with FIP – Feline Infectious Peritonitis, a disease that not long ago was considered fatal. Thankfully, there is now a treatment that is giving cats a real chance at life. But as many pet parents know, this treatment comes at a very high financial cost and we can’t do it alone. Sadly, this couldn’t have come at a worse time: I’m currently between jobs and already struggling to put food on the table.

About Lex

Lex is a ragdoll kitten, not even a year old yet. We brought him home to be a lifelong companion for our one-and-a-half-year-old female ragdoll, Lilly. Until now, he was a playful, fast-growing kitten, already weighing over 4.5kg, but now he just wants to stay alone hiding under the bed. Our daughter absolutely adores him, she’s always petting him, and he has become a true part of our family.

The Diagnosis

Just three weeks ago, we noticed Lex’s tummy was getting bigger and bigger. At first, we thought it was overeating, so we restricted dry food overnight and separated him from Lili during meals. But nothing changed. We tried deworming treatments, still no improvement. When we finally went to the vet, x-rays and fluid testing confirmed the devastating news: Lex has wet FIP. Just a few years ago, this would have been a death sentence.

But today, there is hope. A treatment protocol now exists that has already saved many cats — and it can save Lex, too. It requires 84 days of daily medication, regular vet check-ups, and lab monitoring. Unfortunately, the total cost is far beyond what we can manage on our own.

Why I’m Asking for Help

Between the medication, vet visits, bloodwork, and supportive care, the cost is estimated to be over $5,000 AUD.
