Help save Juliana's eyesight.
Hi, my name is Thomas Parker, and I'm fundraising for Juliana Alexandra Mendoza Jaimes. Everyone calls Juliana ‘Alexa’. She is 17 years old. Alexa’s dad died when she was an infant. She was primarily raised by her grandmother. She became a young mom at an early age and is now losing her vision. Alexa has a disease in both eyes called Keratoconus (ker-uh-toe-KOH-nus). Keratoconus occurs when your cornea — the clear, dome-shaped front surface of your eye — thins and gradually bulges outward into a cone shape. A cone-shaped cornea causes blurred vision and sensitivity to light and glare. The disease is too far along to save her left cornea and Alexa needs a corneal transplant in the left eye and treatment in the other. Her grandmother doesn’t have much money, and there is no insurance for the family. Alexis wants to give her child a better life and is currently trying to finish school. She isn’t sure what she wants to do later in life, but she is thinking about nursing or teaching, but first, she needs to save her eyesight. Alexa lives in Colombia in a small rural town called Pacho. Any extra funds will help pay for Alexa’s education if more money is raised than needed.
