Help Save Endangered Forest Trees In Nigeria

Who Is Fundraising?

This fundraiser is on behalf of AWIFE, Association of Women In Forestry and Environment, a Non Profit founded and registered in Nigeria, West Africa by Prof. Aderonke Folashade Adio-Somade of the Forestry Research Institute Nigeria  FRIN (Retired).

The association is a collective of women in forestry and environmental research, dedicated to introducing alternative strategies for forest conservation, and environmental protection by creating awareness to the economic values of multipurpose tree species(MPTs) and popularizing them as potential sources of livelihood.

What AWIFE Need Funds For

Trees are a critical component for most life forms on Earth, unfortunately, the preservation of endangered forest tree species is not a top priority for many governments.
We have at least 63 endangered forest trees species that are on the IUCN  red list, with some been Critically Endangered, and particular to the South West of Nigeria.

We intend to purchase 35 Hectares of favorable land in Ibadan Nigeria, to grow, nurture and hence preserve these species, which include;

1. Militia Excelsa (Weiw.) C.C Berg
2. Lophira Alata Banks ex Gaertn.
3. Raphia Regalis Becc.
4. Afzelia Ificana Sm.
5. Dennetia Tripetela Bak.f. and many more.

The 35 Hectares cost $80,000 and planting, another $15,000. This area would also be presented to the public as a botanical garden for the endangered forest trees species.

Forest tree species are ecologically, culturally and economically valuable components of biodiversity and their conservation is essential to the well-being of people in all countries of the world, and we are hoping to raise $100,000 through this crowd funder.

Please Donors who do want a reward or want to discuss a substantial donation should please contact Prof. Adio-Somade at [email redacted].

Even as every donation is appreciated to the core of our hearts, and would be made public on our website and printed on a carved list in the garden, donations from $500 to $5,000 would have a tree planted in your name.

Donations from $5,001 to $50,000 would be entitled to the same as the previous level plus Sections named after you.

And Donors that donate $50,001 upwards would have the garden named after them.

Also, remember to tick the Gift Aid box, it makes a lot of difference.

To be successful, the funds would be needed before the first week of February 2021 in order for work to commence immediately. As forest trees take 10 to 20 years to fully grow, we'll need to start as quickly as possible.

This garden has been a dream of Prof. Adio-Somade, which she has visualized through most of her more than 25 years in the Ibadan campus of the Forestry Research Institute Nigeria. The importance of every forest tree species cannot be overemphasized.

Donations of any amount are deeply appreciated. Let's save these forest trees together for a cleaner more sustainable planet!
