Help Save Elliott

Donation protected
Our beloved Elliott needs our help. Elliott is our beautiful sweet boy who brings us so much love and has cuddly touched everyone's hearts.

We are in shock that someone has hit him with their car and drove away. Elliott is currently in the ICU unit at Canada West. He has had his breathing calmed and a tube put in to release air from his lungs. He has fractured his leg and there is a possibility of amputation or plates. His diaphragm needs to be assessed and surgery will have to take place. Elliott is in the wonderful care of Canada West, but at this, it does come with cost. It is 2000 dollars a night plus procedures, test, and surgerys.

The report from Elliot's care team:

Elliott has sustained multiple injuries after being hit by a car. The least critical of his injuries is a spiral fracture of the right femur. This does require surgical repair. What is making him most critical is the damage to his lungs. He has contusions and edema in his lung tissue. This is basically bruising of his lungs. This makes it hard for him to exchange oxygen. He also has lung tissue that is leaking air into the chest (pneumothorax). A chest tube has been placed to address this. And last but not least he has a ruptured diaphragm which is the muscular partition between his abdomen and his chest. He is being managed with oxygen therapy, pain control, and a chest tube is in place to remove the air.

He continues to be critical but stable with his current management. I am hopeful that his condition will improve further in the next 24 hours. I feel at this time it is too risky to proceed with surgery today. He will need extensive surgery and he may need two surgeries. We will have to go into his chest to find the leaking air and repair the lung tissue by partial removal of a lung lobe. His diaphragmatic hernia will need to be surgically repaired. The fractured bone will need to be prepared. There are certainly risks with anesthesia and surgery in a situation like this but if he should make it through he has an excellent prognosis for full return to normal function.

I have estimated you that this would likely cost in the neighbourhood of $12-$15,000 over the next 4-5 days in the hospital. This will include surgery and post surgical care as long as there are no complications. Of course we will let you know if there are complications or situations causing a higher estimate. We have not yet fully radiographed his pelvis and I do not expect that he will have any pelvic injuries but radiographs of his pelvis will be taken under anesthesia tomorrow.

I have already made plans for surgery tomorrow. I will call you if there is any change in his condition. We will require a 75% deposit on the high-end of the estimate before proceeding with surgery tomorrow.

We are asking you, our friends, to help us bring our baby home and be able to proceed to get the best care possible.
