Daisy and Fig started their lives with Bayfield's Forgotten Felines Cat Rescue.
Daisy was just a young kitten when she and her siblings were dumped at the end of a farm laneway. Caring rescuers brought them to BFF
Fig's mother, Peach, was a young orange and white feral kitten trapped and brought to our shelter. Though only 6 months old, poor little Peach was already pregnant! A month after arriving at BFF, she gave birth to 6 kittens that were almost identical to her!
Daisy and Fig along with their siblings grew up happy and, apparently healthy. Finally, they were ready for adoption with some homes lined up but then disaster struck: Daisy and Fig were diagnosed with F.I.P. (Feline Infectious Peritonitis). Until recently, this diagnosis would have been a death sentence as the mortality rate was almost 100%. F.I.P. is a mutation of a Feline Corona Virus. It is not clear why it mutates in some cats, even in the same litter, and not others.
Recently, a treatment has been found that, in clinical trials, proves 85% effective in curing F.I.P. This medication would give Daisy and Fig an excellent chance at recovery so they can go on to live a wonderful life in their new forever homes. Unfortunately, this treatment is extremely expensive. The drug regimen costs up to $2500.00 per cat, plus the cost of the syringes/needles and additional medications needed during treatment. Ongoing bloodwork is also required throughout the 84-day treatment to monitor the kitten's health.
Bayfield's Forgotten Felines is a very small cat rescue, run and largely funded by passionate, tireless volunteers. We currently have 78 cats in our care with kitten season soon beginning. We rely on donations of food, litter and other supplies, the goodwill and discounts from our amazing vet and money from our own pockets. Our adoption fee of $200 doesn't come close to covering the entire expense of spaying/neutering, vaccines, veterinary care, food/litter and shelter.
Our goal is to find loving forever homes for all the cats in our care. Sadly, the additional expense for this F.I.P. treatment is out of our reach though we have started their treatment, putting ourselves in debt. We need your help! These two kittens have been with us their entire lives. They are amazing young cats who were just on the brink of achieving their goal of a forever home. The thought of not giving them that chance is unthinkable. Anything you can contribute will go directly to help save Daisy and Fig.
