Help Save Coco the Cat

Hello Everyone,

This is my first time ever reaching out to the wider world to ask for something. In this time of global crisis and financial strain, I more than most understand what it is to be effected and to fall between the cracks.

I’m going to be fully transparent and completely frank. 2020 has been a monstrous roller-coaster for me as much as it has been for everyone else.

In February I lost my job when the telecommunications department I’d worked with for 3 years closed their technical faults unit down. Soon after the COVID-19 pandemic put the world into lockdown and disabled me from finding a new position as all companies seized hiring until further notice.

In June, I suffered a spinal disc herniation that crippled me for months with some of the most incredible pain I had ever suffered in my entire life.

That’s not what I’m here for today, however. Today, I’m writing about my beautiful cat, Coco. A more endearing little fellow will be hard-pressed to find. (Although I fully recognize all furry friends are unconditionally beautiful.)

That said, my family and I have a tender heart for animals. We are currently at capacity providing a forever home to 4 dogs and 6 cats, all of which have been found and rescued from the streets or brutal previous owners.

Coco’s story is similar. He was rescued from the streets as a kitten of about 6 months old. A beautiful little blue/grey moggy with white socks and mittens and a white tuxedo belly. His life started out in the streets being beaten and abused by children who would throw rocks at him or otherwise submit him to other unthinkable atrocities.

It took a little patience and planning, but we managed to befriend him with gentle words and kindness until the kitten decided to follow us of his own accord. Coco was brought to his forever home with us where we vowed he would live his life happily ever after.

Coco is a courageous, intelligent and gentle-hearted cat in spite of his difficult start to life. This endearing little boy comes when called by name and loves nothing better than to play, eat and sleep in comfort with his other household friends of whom he finds endlessly amusing.

Unfortunately, when we took Coco to the vet for his first check-ups and vaccinations we came to learn a horrible truth. That he had been infected with FIV. That’s Feline Aids. And the result is that his immune system is suppressed. His wounds will not heal as quickly as any other healthy kitty. They may take months if indeed they heal at all.

It is most unfortunate, as Coco has little wounds on his head and eye that despite the best and continued application of vet prescribed anti-biotics they still will not heal.

In the past few months, Coco has developed an alarming lump on his left shoulder. It has filled to the size of a small orange in the palm of your hand. We have taken him to the vet twice since to have the lump assessed and drained and whilst it doesn’t appear to be cancerous at the moment, we fear that if it is not operated on and removed entirely, it may form into an abscess that could be fatal.

Unemployed as I am at the moment, I’m devastated. I would not hesitate to spend any amount of money on supporting an animal in need.

But the truth of the matter is, I’ve exhausted my current credit with the vet (I have an outstanding bill of $1200AUS) and whilst Coco needs this surgery urgently to preserve his quality of life, I have no other choice than to seek support from external creditors and to beg for help.

Coco’s current surgery costs will be approximately $900AUS. That will cover: organ biopsy, blood works, anaesthetic, the surgery, fluids, medications and hospitalization. It is for this surgery that I wish to raise the funds so desperately. The vet our loving Dr. Sharon of Penrith Veterinary Hospital in NSW, Australia has advised that it is best to operate sooner rather than later for fear of the lump becoming life-threatening. I have booked the surgery to the earliest available date which is Tuesday December 21st, 2020.

I beg of you, ladies and gents, if you can spare any funds to help me preserve Coco’s life, I would be forever indebted in gratitude. If you cannot spare anything, to help spread my cause and share this message with as many people as possible will also have me in your debt.

I pray that a time may come in the future where I may be able to support you or your furry friends in such a cause and were I in a position financially, I would seek to fund every campaign single-handedly.

The only thing I want more than anything this year is just to save my cat. Coco has suffered enough adversary throughout the years and I’m determined to preserve his quality of life for as long as I may be blessed by keeping him at my side. Currently, Coco is bitterly unhappy. He wears his cone to protect him from gnawing at the lump that would bleed out and put his life at risk. Poor little angel no longer understands why he succumbing to so much suffering, but to relieve him of this dreadful lump and let him live the rest of his days in peace and happiness is surely what any furry companion deserves.

Again, I implore you, please, please help me save Coco the cat!

I will provide full updates, receipts and photo/video proof of his process and again, you can be certain, I am indebted to your compassion and kindness forever.
