Help Save Ambarona Farm

Calling all Mainers, friends and family to help this local couple. The McDuffie’s are first generation farmers and expecting their first child. Sadly, their landlord and employer has terminated their professional relationship without notice. They stand to lose their business, home, farm and livestock all at once. Please consider donating to help these community members in this difficult time.

More about the McDuffie’s below…

Molly and Jordan McDuffie founded Ambarona Farm in Cumberland, ME with the mission to combat climate change and food insecurity through sustainable farming on a conservation easement managed by the Chebeague & Cumberland Land Trust (CCLT). They have touched countless lives in and around the Maine agricultural and restaurant communities. Now we call on those communities to help this family in their time of need.

Ambarona Farm partnered with Whistle Cat Farm along with several local organic farmers and organizations to supply ingredients to the farm-to-table restaurant also residing on the CCLT farmland and were extraordinarily successful! They built their farm and helped to build the brand-new restaurant into a successful and profitable farm-to-table business. They are members of the organization Veterans to Farmers, which aided in starting their small dairy cow herd. They both started out with the goal to sustainably farm the land, but were soon brought onto the management team, due to their leadership skills, knowledge and dedication to this cause, with Molly being the restaurant general manager and Jordan the bar manager. They created a sustainable, bountiful farm that supported local businesses and farmers. They were successfully rehabilitating the farming soil around their 200-year-old farmhouse using intensive multi species rotational grazing to increase soil biodiversity and carbon sequestration. They donated countless resources and food supplies to local food insecurity organizations to provide nutrient dense foods to local individuals struggling with food insecurity.

Sadly, due to recent unforeseen changes they are at risk of losing everything they have created over the last two years. They face the uncertainty of moving from their home so soon after losing their jobs, and losing their farm business. They may also be forced to sell their livestock and their livelihoods as farmers in the process. Despite the uncertainty of their future, they hope to find a new beginning and continue working toward their mission of providing food access to their community and a positive environmental impact. With their first child on the way, and many other large changes in their future, we ask that you consider donating to this family to help them in this difficult time.

Thank you
