To many, concepts of anonymity and freedom of speech are token issues taken up at the first sign of trouble in relation to their own lives. But what if your ability to speak freely was actually entirely reliant of your ability to remain free from official scrutiny? This is the plight faced by thousands if not millions of ex-Muslim skeptics and atheists throughout the middle east.
Faced with imprisonment, torture and even execution just for voicing their doubts, these bold humanists typically ask for one to support the escape of another long before asking for themselves. It is for this reason that this campaign has been launched.
Following a decade of dangerous yet impassioned dissent from the theocratic regime of Saudi Arabia, the subject of this campaign who we shall refer to as Ahmed for the sake of maintaining his safety until he is free from their grasp, is seeking an escape from the Middle East with the hopes of seeking asylum in Canada. An ex-Muslim atheist who supports the liberalization and reformation of his homeland, Ahmed faces a very real danger for his crimes of free and critical thought and speech. With an increasingly aggressive crackdown by SA authorities against dissidents both at home and abroad, Ahmed has begun to actively fear for his life and safety.
It is for this reason that we, the organizers of this effort are seeking your help. With an initial goal of $45,000, these funds will help Ahmed secure the necessary papers and permissions for a safe and legal immigration out of the reach of theocracy, as well as cover basic living and travel expenses to help him physically relocate.
Upon completion of his safe egress, Ahmed plans not only to disclose his true name and identity, but to raise even more vocal criticisms of the regime he seeks to escape as well as helping others do the same using the experience and knowledge gained through his own sojourn. Consider please a humble donation of whatever you can afford and the sharing of this campaign effort with friends, family and colleagues.
