AGAINST ALL ODDS: LOUIE
Please help us save this sweet purebred Sphynx cat. His shocking story can still have a happy ending with your support, but we need help right away.
Louie was imprisoned in an illegal breeder’s kitten mill where he was kept caged, in deplorable conditions, and used as a stud because of his spectacular natural beauty. He was badly neglected and became sick but no medical care was given. He suffered horrible sores all over, due to being forced to sit in his own waste for so long, and an eye infection from fecal bacteria all around him. Finally, when the abusive breeder didn’t need his ‘services’ any longer, Louie was thrown out like garbage, left to fend for himself on the hot pavements of Florida in July. Terrified, he looked for water and food but found none, and became sunburned, emaciated, dehydrated, and terribly weak. He had no shelter, no shade, and no strength left to fight for life, so at only 2 years old, he just lay down to die.
Miraculously, a good samaritan found his limp body, and rushed to help. A vet team did the best they could to save him. He was just 4 lbs, skeletal, barely responsive, in shock, with blood encrusted tail and allover burns from hot pavement. His prognosis was poor, but they began to stabilize him with IV fluids, and then tried to find a specialist in Sphynx cats to foster and help rehabilitate him if he survived the day.
That’s where we came in.
Our foster for Louie is a Sphynx specialist with years of experience and the specific knowledge of the breed to give exactly the care Louie needs. He is now in a quiet home with four other Sphynx cats who have accepted him as the newest patient, and Louie is responding to them and to his new foster. Despite his fragile condition, Louie is still a gentle, sweet, affectionate boy. Apparently he doesn’t hold a grudge against humans, because he is a lap cat who purrs and ‘talks’ and enjoys company. Most of all, Louie shows incredible gratitude for daily warm baths, soft blankets, air conditioning, generous servings of food, and fresh cool clean water to drink. He seems to know that he is in a safe place now, for the first time in his life.
**Update: He's actually at our Vet Hospital receiving 24hr care and IV fluids, he needed more care than our home environment could provide him**
Yet the road back to health is not a straight one for Louie. He is deathly ill. His medical bills are extremely high and will continue to climb as we work to get him rehydrated, to treat his anemia, sores and burns and infections, and to attempt to counteract the organ damage he suffered from starvation and dehydration. The injury from neglect and abuse may be too great to overcome, and he may not survive, but nevertheless, he deserves all the care we can give. The costs from daily vet appointments are multiplying quickly, and we need your help to continue his care.

Louis Zamperini, was an Olympic runner who as an airman during World War II, crashed into the Pacific, was listed as dead, and then spent 47 days adrift in a life raft before being captured by the Japanese and enduring a harsh imprisonment as a POW.
Louie's story, as written in UNBROKEN, is a remarkable story of survival against all odds, just like I hope this Little Louie's will be ❤️

Looks a little better here, because his cute little face is clean, but he is severely dehydrated, barely moving and we were headed to the vet.
