Help Sarah with Slow Lotus Yoga

Donation protected

UPDATE: Slow Lotus Yoga is happening! My YTT begins on April 7. Part of my training involves a minimum of 10 hours of teaching. I am ready to hit the ground running. I have an itemized list of expenses required to get yoga out to the community here in Arlington, Texas and the general Fort Worth and Dallas area. Therefore, this campaign has been updated to reflect current needs. I am aiming for $5,000. This will allow me to set up my "mobile studio" for 10 students. Prioritized items are asterisked.* Want to help but not via Go Fund Me? You can give donations to me directly (I will add them to the tally on the campaign). Also helpful: Gift cards to Yoga Outlet and Amazon.

Itemized expenses:

$200 yoga mats* (10)
$80 yoga blocks 3 inch* (10)
$80 yoga blocks 4 inch* (10)
$65 yoga straps (10)
$150 yoga blankets (10)
$50 towels* (10)
$25 wireless speaker*
$200 storage / organization
$50 cleaning supplies*
$100 outreach (business cards, fliers, etc.)
$100 music
$300 books
$300 required private YTT sessions* (6)
$100 meditation supplies*
$115 Yoga Alliance RYT registration upon completion*
$3,000 YTT - tuition already paid in full!

As always, thank you for your support and love!

Sarah,
aka Slow Lotus

P.S. If you're a math wizard you'll see this doesn't add up to exactly $5,000. This is because Go Fund Me takes a cut, percentage plus per donation, so I'm making it a round number for the campaign.

ORIGINAL:

I am not your typical yogi. I am 40. I am overweight, but fit. I am a mother of two who has struggled with infertility, endometriosis, and a thyroid condition. But for the past twenty years, I have been practicing yoga. Yoga has changed me. It’s saved me.

And now, it’s time for me to be able to share yoga with others who need it too. A local studio is offering a yoga teacher training taught by my current teacher and mentor Lisa and other experts in the various yoga branches.

As a family of four living on one income, our budget does not allow for the cost of tuition, of which a deposit of $500 is due March 15. The total cost for the training, which runs from April through October 2018, will be $2,700. So I come to you, hoping this won't seem too gauche or privileged to ask for your help. Please help me afford this. I promise to deliver.*

Here’s my vision: I want serve the community by bringing yoga to those who need it, and especially to create a safe space for NYPs (non-yoga-people) to reap the benefits of this ancient science. I want to bridge the gap between yoga "in the studio" and yoga for community service. I want to bring yoga into schools for teachers and students, to the elderly, to people suffering from chronic health conditions, to those in recovery, to those who are grieving, and to those who suffer with PTSD or depression. In addition to studio teaching, I will be a traveling yoga teacher, and hope to establish this as a permanent resource for my community.

Yoga reconnects the mind and the body, but it can also reconnect the self to the community. This is my vision of yoga. Thank you for helping me share it with people in my community who need it.
Thank you!
Sarah

* I will also need to cover the expenses for running this campaign (2.9% plus thirty cents per donation), and incidentals, so I am setting a fundraising goal of $3,000. Any donations beyond this will be used to purchase equipment for use in teaching (bolsters, mats, blocks, towels, etc.)
