Help Sarah and her girls through Mike's cancer
My name is Robyn Adams, sister-in-law to Sarah Adams, and aunt to Vera and Dorothy. This fundraiser is for them.
It wasn't that long ago that I was at a family dinner in my mother-in-laws home, and the phone rang. It was Sarah with the news that Mike had just been diagnosed with late stage cancer. It was shocking for us, but for Sarah and their young girls, it was life shattering.
Mike was young, seemingly healthy, and so needed by his family. To Sarah he's her "rock solid co-parent" and one of her best pals. To their daughters, Vera and Dorothy, he's Dad.
He's been the most incredible Dad, teaching them "kindness, humour, and incredible bravery. He's introduced them to music, festivals and culture, and has worked so hard to support them and foster their interests." Challenging doesn't begin to describe how it has been for them, knowing his time was running out. They will be moving forward into teenage years and the rest of life without a father they adore.
Mike's recent decline happened very quickly, meaning Sarah has had to unexpectedly halt operations of her small business (Alberta Girl Acres) at the peak of the season. She knows her daughters will do best being in Calgary, closer to friends and family, so she is in the process of selling her dream farm and rehoming her animal buddies. The last couple of years have already been HARD, but the days and weeks ahead will be worse.
Mike was moved to hospice last week. They thought they had more time.
Like you, I want to help, but also feel helpless in knowing how. Realistically, bills still need to be paid even in the most tragic circumstances. It might be one of the only things we can make a meaningful difference with right now.
I know Sarah has created an incredible community of beautiful people around her, and it's time for us to come together and lift her through the hardest days of her life.
All donations from this fundraiser will go towards helping Sarah and her girls navigate this final phase in saying goodbye to Mike.
