Help Sara Tonin Recover from a Car Crash

I'm writing this campaign on behalf of my dear friend, Sara Tonin. My partner and I were waiting for Sara to return with dinner on Sunday night, July 5th, when we got a call that she had been in an accident.

From what we have been able to piece together from Sara's memory and the damage on each of the cars, Sara's car was T-boned by another vehicle that was speeding through the light attempting to merge onto the freeway. They hit Sara's car hard and slammed them into the side of the freeway overpass.

My partner and I arrived on the scene to pick Sara up and saw several fire trucks and cop cars as well as an ambulance centered around Sara's car which had been plastered against the side of a freeway overpass. We did our best to salvage as many personal belongings as we could from their totaled vehicle before it was towed.  Sara had to be pried out of the vehicle after she was crunched into the car with the impact of the crash on the driver's side.

Sara was immediately taken to the hospital and we have not been able to see her due to the precautions being taken around the pandemic. So far we have learned that Sara has sustained fractured ribs as well as several pelvic fractures. She is currently not able to move much at all and is still in the ICU at the hospital. We are hopeful that Sara will get full mobility again but are not sure on a timeline yet and she will need to be in a wheelchair for a while before she can recover mobility.

This accident has hit our friend at an already very vulnerable time. Sara has experienced a dramatic loss of income due to the pandemic and has not been able to secure any federal aid. She does not have health insurance and will not be able to expect to see a settlement from the accident any time soon. Not to mention, the loss of her vehicle also makes things much more difficult.

There is a long road ahead for Sara, and she can use all the help that we can offer right now. Sara has maintained a safe haven for myself and many others in the community to support themselves and it is crucial that we come together to support her now!

My goal is to raise $10,000 so that Sara can have rent paid, money for transportation, food, and any rehabilitation for Sara that will need to come out of pocket. 

I ask that you please share this fundraiser far and wide, but respect the privacy of our friends who are going through a lot right now. Additionally, anyone who is in the bay area and able to assist with dropping off car packages at the hospital or assisting with transportation, please be in touch.
