Help Samosa Shack get their own kitchen!

Samosa Shack came to be for many reasons: I was going through a lot of life changes, including a rough divorce, managing being a single-parent and trying to figure out the next step forward for myself and my daughter. I have no formal culinary training, but I did grow up in my mother’s kitchen, and once I moved to Tarrytown, cooking made me feel close to her even though she was continents away. Friends and strangers who tried the samosas I made encouraged me to sell them, and a couple hundred samosa sales later around 8 years ago, Samosa Shack was born.

Through this journey, there have been many highs and many lows but here we are—still making samosas and more for you. We’ve traveled to 100+ markets and events throughout the Hudson Valley, but really found our community at the Tarrytown and Kingston Farmers Markets. Samosa Shack started the Kingston Farmers Market in that cold winter of 2019, all of us huddled up in The Old Dutch Church. It felt like home. And now, two years later, we’re actually going to make it so!

The situation right now, our dreams and aspirations:

We outgrew our current kitchen in Westchester County in our second year of business. We tried finding a kitchen in Westchester itself, but couldn’t get a space that suited our needs and budget. The fact that we couldn’t really make it our own has meant leaving so many experiments on hold. But this fall we found a kitchen — our own kitchen! — in Kingston. It will allow us so much more freedom and creativity. We will finally start canning our much enjoyed chutneys for retail shelves and also expand our catering capacity. We’ll be able to offer more of our popular cooking classes, both at the kitchen and at your homes. We will still be at The Tarrytown Farmers Market every other week, as we currently are. Maybe most of all, we’ll be able to work normal days. Where we are now, we have to work around the schedule of the kitchen owner, which always means working into the wee hours of the night.

What we need your help for:

After securing the space and signing the lease on our own, we now need your help to equip it. The kitchen we have secured is a bare-bone space, with only a sink and two tables. The list of what we need to make it succeed is long; here are some of the bigger items: installation of a ventilation system, a six burner stove to accommodate all our cooking needs, an oven, and a walk-in refrigerator. And so, for all this and more, we’re looking to raise $25,000 to get us over the finish line.

The Big Picture:

We also want to use this opportunity to help the communities that have sustained our businesses through all these years! For every dollar above $15,000 that we raise, 15 cents will go to the Van Buren and Clinton Avenue community fridges in Kingston, NY, and The Community Food Pantry of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow - both causes which are very close to our hearts.

Where you come in:

If you have ever enjoyed a samosa, or ordered a delivery from us, and believe in who we are - a creative WOC owned and operated vegan food business, that in turn supports our farmers and the local economy, please help us get over the top. Whatever that means to you - a contribution, sharing the campaign with your peers, ordering a meal from us, showing up at one of our markets, or holiday events, or simply just following us on social media, We appreciate YOU!
