<div>Sami is a beloved friend, sister, daughter, and an incredibly talented makeup and skincare guru. She came to the U.S. from Acapulco, Mexico at a young age, thanks to the sacrifices her mother made to build a better life for their family. Sami and her family have long worked toward citizenship, but the process is painfully expensive.

<div>After enduring the heartbreaking loss of her boyfriend to suicide, Sami fell into depression and unfortunately missed a court date—though she responsibly paid all related court costs. Despite her efforts, she was recently detained for two “Failure to Appear” charges. Under new immigration policies, she now faces deportation within two weeks. Her sister, a mother of two, has already been deported.

<div>Sami, who is also a trans woman, needs safety, access to gender-affirming healthcare, and community support after deportation.

<div>Sami will be returning to a Mexico that is unfamiliar to her. As her friend, I’m organizing this fundraiser to help her and her family have a fighting chance to rebuild their lives, find stability, and cover basic needs like food and shelter.

<div>Sami es una amiga querida, hermana, hija, y una talentosa experta en maquillaje y cuidado de la piel. Vino a los Estados Unidos desde Acapulco, México, cuando era niña, gracias al esfuerzo de su madre que luchó por una vida mejor para su familia. Ella y su familia han trabajado por años para obtener la ciudadanía, pero el proceso es muy costoso.

<div>Tras la trágica pérdida de su novio por suicidio, Sami cayó en depresión y, lamentablemente, perdió una cita en la corte. Aun así, pagó todos los costos legales asociados. A pesar de ello, fue detenida recientemente por dos cargos de “no comparecencia” y, bajo las nuevas políticas migratorias, está programada para ser deportada en dos semanas. Su hermana, madre de dos niños, ya fue deportada. Sami, quien además es una mujer trans, necesita seguridad, acceso a atención médica que afirme su identidad de género y el apoyo de una comunidad después de su deportación.
