My name is Sam, and I recently graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in zoology. Since finishing school, I’ve been working hard to break into the wildlife and zoo industry—a field I’m truly passionate about. Right now, I’m gaining hands-on experience through an unpaid apprenticeship at the Howell Nature Center, where I help rehabilitate injured wildlife and learn from dedicated professionals. While I’m grateful for this opportunity, I also work full-time in an unrelated job just to keep up with my bills.

My biggest challenge is my student loan debt. Soon, my monthly payments will increase significantly, making it impossible for me to afford basic needs like rent, food, and transportation. This financial strain is holding me back from fully pursuing the career I’ve worked so hard for. If I could pay down my loans, I’d be able to accept more hands-on experience, volunteer, or even relocate for a job in my field—opportunities that are currently out of reach.
