Hello! So I’m here writing about my cat Salem and pleading for help from anyone willing. I found my best friend on the side of the road about 10 years ago, his ears weren’t open and he needed to be bottle fed regularly. Hes watched me grow as a person, move, and go through relationships and create the foundation for my life— and he needs more help than I can give now… approximately three years ago he was taken to the emergency vet for problems and I took out a care-credit card for about $3,000. I’ve been consistently trying to work this off but for anyone who hasn’t ever had care credit, they’re extraordinarily predatory… so it seems somehow after already giving them over $4,000; i still owe $2,500. Recently, I noticed issues again with Salem, including vomiting bile, straining during urination, groaning, lethargy and peeing blood. So I took him to my regular vet, who was very helpful and they told me he had a blockage and it seemed pretty bad and to take him to an emergency vet immediately, or he would pass away. I sat at the front desk and called multiple Places, applying for cards— being denied… (because even though I already gave care credit over $4,000 they wouldn’t increase my spending limit.) until I could find one who would take him. So… I leave to go to the emergency vet, and the FIRST bill cost about $1,350; I had to borrow. They were able to tell me there were crystals in his urine and his bladder needed to be drained, and he needed a couple days to be watched. then I had no idea it wasn’t a 24 hour vet so he had to be transferred. So I bring him to a 24 hour vet to be monitored, fluids, antibiotics etc. They tried to charge me $5,000…. I was able to knock it down by giving him the bare minimum treatment instead of the recommended three days of care. So they told me, that it’s possible for the crystals to block him back up without this care, and I’m utterly horrified because the first time years ago when I went to the emergency vet for the first incident with Salem, their solution was “if you can’t afford care, he is to be put to sleep” giving me an ultimatum… so I’m afraid I bring him home, and just because he can’t pee, hell pass away… nobody has been able to give me much information or hope besides “bring him home and change his diet, but this could happen again” and if it does I’m afraid I won’t be able to afford it… it would absolutely crush me to have my best friend have to go for something so small and fixable, when the veterinary system has failed me. I’m currently in debt about $6,072.34 and this doesn’t include if he might need to go back or the special food or anything…. So I’m here just asking for anyone who can to PLEASE help my cat survive this and help me crawl out of debt because I’m about to end up using my rent check to pay for this….
