My husband, Ahmed Mohammad Amir, who is 35 years old and a student, was recently involved in a hit-and-run accident while walking on a pedestrian pathway. The driver remains unidentified. Ahmed suffered severe injuries, including fractures in both legs, injuries to his left hand and head, partial lung damage, and several bruises over his body.

<div>He is currently receiving treatment at the UChicago Medicine Center for Care and Discovery(5700 S Maryland Ave, Chicago) in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) under the care of a neurosurgeon. His condition is very critical, and doctors are constantly monitoring him. They are managing his brain pressure by temporarily suspending normal functions. He is on a ventilator, and while his lung function appears stable, the medical team is closely watching for any changes to avoid the need for ECMO support. Intramedullary rods have been placed in both legs, and his heart, liver, and renal functions are stable at this time.
