If you feel moved, then we would be very very grateful for any support to help S receive treatment which could allow her to recover from mental illness and its intense suffering, which she has had to cope with for decades.

The condition has blighted her life in ways too numerous to mention, and which I won't as it is very painful to read about all the ways in which your mental illness has affected you, your life, and those around you, but she has suffered as a young woman, then whilst bringing up her own children, and now watching her grandchildren grow.

As with so many mental health conditions, despite years of trying to get help, trying anything that is offered, NHS treatment has been totally ineffective, sometimes actively detrimental, and has also involved being on waiting lists for years to see specialists, to then be told the specialist has left their post and S has been dropped from the waiting list.

For the first time there is real hope of an effective treatment in the form of Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy, which is showing great promise in the treatment of treatment resistant depression, and is now being used and trialled in several countries across the world. There is one clinic in Scotland, the EULAS clinic, which offers this treatment, but it is not offered on the NHS. The clinic seems to be very well run, and fairly priced, but at £6000 for the treatment, plus travel and expenses to stay in the area -Hamilton - for treatments, it is entirely out of reach for many. S's condition of course make her unable to work, and so is supported by benefits, and this amount would be more than what she has to live on for a substantial part of the year. i.e. to find this money would mean having to not buy food, not pay for electricity, not have a phone, not use the internet, not replace clothes, etc etc for over half a year. You get what I'm saying!

To make it possible for S to access this treatment, some of us would like to see if we can gather together some funds so that she would have far less to have to find, and to ensure that she doesn't have to give up on this treatment because of cost, which would seem very unjust.

So if you would like to donate any amount whatsoever, just know that it will be extremely gratefully received, and will be restoring some hope, for S, but for others too, as it always provides hope I think when we work together to do something for others!
