Ryan Sabarita's Battle with Lung Cancer
Ryan Sabarita is a good friend of mine from college. He, his wife Karen and I, all graduated from the same nursing school in Cebu, Philippines. The three of us migrated to Florida almost 10 years ago and consider each other like second family.
On December 2011, Ryan was diagnosed with lung cancer. He was 36 years old then, who never smoked, ran marathons and lived a healthy lifestyle. Like all life threatening illnesses, lung cancer shook him and his family to the core. He underwent surgery to remove the lung cancer and proceeded to have chemotherapy & radiation in 2012. After his treatment, he continued to work part-time.
Just this month, he began to notice worsening headaches and found out that the lung cancer had spread to his brain. Last Tuesday, he underwent craniotomy and resection of a 3.5 cm tumor near the base of his skull. He will undergo brain radiation as soon as the incision heals and he recovers from surgery.
Unfortunately, Ryan will not be able to go back to work after his surgery. He is a father of two kids, a 5-year old daughter & 3-year old son. He used to work as a O.R. nurse at a hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Your donations will help Ryan with his cancer treatment and help support the family's day-to-day expenses. There is still so much to do and the road ahead for Ryan and his family is uncertain. The Sabarita family thanks all of their friends and family for the outpouring of support and prayers.
